REGISTERING WITH THE GOVERNMENT. Now that you have selected a form of business
organization, you must register with the government.
  • If you are operating as something other than a sole proprietorship, you must register your
    entity with the Texas Secretary of State.  You may need to register with your local county
    clerk's office.
  • You must also obtain an identification number from the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Depending on the type of business you intend to run, you may also be required to obtain a
    sales tax permit from the State Comptroller's office.

PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT OR BYLAWS.  You may have heard stories of how partners and
shareholders end up unhappy with their business arrangements.  It doesn't have to be that way.
An effective operating document will discuss various aspects of how your entity is governed.

LEASE AN OFFICE OR WAREHOUSE. Your particular business may or may not require you to
lease an office but, if it does, you will have a landlord with which to deal.  You may have an
equipment lease to consider.  We can assist you with evaluating a lease and negotiating terms
that protect your interests.  Importantly, we can assist you in understanding your obligations and
responsibilities.

DEVELOP BANKING RELATIONS.  You may need to complete your financial records or develop
projections for your loan application.  We can help your prepare or revise the records that banks
require.

FILE AN INCOME TAX RETURN.  At the end of the year, you will need to file an income tax
